Privacy Policy
Streamly is designed so that we know as little about you as possible. This page describes what the app stores, where, and what leaves your device.
Optional account
Streamly works fully without an account. If you create one, it consists of a username and a password only: no email address, no phone number, no name. We do not collect, store or process any other personal data. There is no analytics, no crash reporting SDK and no advertising SDK in the app.
What the account syncs, and how it is protected
With an account, your preferences, favorites, hidden categories, playback positions and the credentials of the service you configured are synchronised between your devices. Before leaving a device, each record is encrypted with a key derived from your password (PBKDF2 then AES-256-GCM); record identifiers are replaced by keyed hashes. Our server stores only this unreadable data, the hash of your password and the timestamps needed to merge changes. We cannot read your credentials, your favorites or what you watch, and we cannot recover your data if you lose your password.
Deleting the account from Settings erases all synced data from our server immediately. Signing out of the account keeps the data on the device.
The account server is hosted in the European Union.
What stays on your device
- Service credentials (server address, username, password) are stored in the device keychain, encrypted by the operating system. They are only ever sent to the server address you entered.
- Your library (categories, titles, artwork URLs) is downloaded from that server and cached locally so the app opens instantly.
- Favorites, hidden categories, language preferences and playback positions are stored locally only.
What leaves your device
The app communicates with the server address you configured, to fetch your library, programme information and media, and with our account server only if you created an account (encrypted records, as described above). Artwork images are loaded from the URLs your service provides. No data is sent to any third party.
Deleting your data
Signing out in Settings deletes credentials, the cached library, favorites and playback history from the device. Deleting the app removes everything.
Children
Streamly is not directed at children under 16 and includes an option, enabled by default, to hide categories flagged as adult by your service.
